If anybody knows automotive paint, it is Tim.
To my recollection, the GT Tigers came stock from the factory with a
body color hard top. Dealers, except factory special ordered cars,
stocked black hard tops supplied painted or not to order. If ordered
from the factory, the hard tops came in the same color as the car.
Usually, the dealer painted to match the body, as requested, or just
supplied the stocking black color.
Or as it has been said, "You Get's What You Pays For!" (some of the time.)
When the Mazda Miata came out, it was the same way - black accessory
unless you wanted it painted. The Thunderbird, in the mid 1950's, and
the 50th anniversary 2005 model came with the car, and was body color.
IMHO, hard tops looks more impressive in body color, as previous other
makes had a non-factory, fiberglass, black finish. (My '51 MG and '54
Jag).
Aside:
Just read a newspaper article about gas pricing - and the "$ XX.9"
costs. Surely stores understand that $ 99.9 sounds cheaper than $100,
but it was added taxes on gas when it was less than $1.00 / gal. They
just never changed it, like the "99 cent" stores are now $1.99
packages. They supposedly round it off on the total. Would you believe
they round it UP?
