Sorry, didn't really read your whole post! The spacer just moves the
pushrod and hence pedal back, into the firewall. Without the spacer,
the clutch pedal would be higher. Maybe a previous owner damaged the
thread on the pushrod and had to shorten it (or altered the pedal tab
somehow). Try it with and without and see what you prefer....
