I have seen one a few times at the LA Shelby events over the years, seems to
run OK, still a Miata and when all said and done I don't remember it doing
anything that made me thing it handled really well or was exceptionally fast.
Better off doing an Lieger (some call them Algers) at least IMO it looks
cooler the the Miata. In all reality you don't need a V8 in a Miata, I have
seen
them run fast with the 4 bangers and turbo kits are cheep and plenty for
them.

The Miata suspension is, well, 30-40 years "better" than the Sunbeam's and
you can get a suitable donor unibody cheaper than an Alpine...with less
opportunity for rust issues...so, I can't see any logic in doing an Alger...
I won the San Diego Solo II SCCA National Tour XP class this year in a
supercharged Miata...310rwhp, coil over suspension, big Hoosier A6 tires and
1900lbs...so, I'd agree, there are easier options to making a Miata go fast
than
installing a V8...but, they won't sound as cool. :-)
