I have one that had the same issue, don't remember the brand but likely was
the same (From Summit). I had to clean up the bottom of the waterpump a bit
with a file and it was all fine. The one I had was nice except just a tick
larger. Removable weights (28, 50) which is good for flexibility, and various
options since it was a flat face version you had a few spacer options that
came with it.

Re: [Tigers] Harmonic Balancer
That's not good... I used the 50 oz-in one on
a 5.0 (because it was
short and had the 3 bolt pulley pattern) and it worked
fine there, and
that's with the original (5-bolt 289) timing cover. I bolted
this
together a few years ago... I should have a look and see if I maybe
modified something there, but I don't recall any issues.

"If you want one that is not necessarily
OEM, then the Professional
Products balancers are inexpensive and very nicely
made. They come with
the proper (3") overall length, a black finish with 3
sets of timing
marks engraved and filled with white ink, and 3 and 4 hole
pulley
patterns on the front."
I tried to use one of those on my rebuilt
1964 260 and found it hit part
of the timing cover and would not seat
completely. It was listed as
fitting all Ford small blocks from 260 - 302.
Some where along the
line, maybe from the 260 to the 289, the timing cover was
changed. So I
bought a new "original
style" balancer and it fit perfectly.
On Ebay there is one listed for
$46 #
150291380194 .
