As far as I know 289 should be cast into 289 heads; 260 heads were
blank.
Check for casting numbers and date codes; there is a good chance you have
260 heads C4OE-A which are similar to the 289 heads.
You seem to be looking in the right places for the fouling problem; keep us
informed.

I also noticed when the valve cover was off that I have dual valve springs
(installed in 289 HiPo heads) and screw-in rocker arm studs (also a 289 HiPo
item). But, "289" is not to be found anywhere on the head. I will be
looking into this further by checking the casting numbers.
