The 260 hp engine appears to be a race engine. There is very
little information listed other than 1963, 12 to 1 compression ration and 4
- 2v Weber carburetors. My guess is that this is a standard 260 block
with 289 heads and other 289 parts; possibly 289 hipo parts. This 260
engine block is most likely the updated block with 3 freeze plugs and the
289 style configuration.

Engine ID

There has been a lot of great information added about how to ID a
small block engine recently. Just remember that unless you absolutely know
a car/ engine combination is untouched stock configuration; tag numbers and
vin ID numbers will not ID the size of the engine block. Tags can be lost,
swapped or changed, engines and engine parts can be swapped around. You
know how some of us hot rodders are.

The only way to absolutely know what block you have and its original CID is
to read the block casting number.

Until seeing the "Engine ID Update" posting, I was not aware that Ford
produced a 260 rated at "260 HP." Is this engine the 260 equivalent of a
hipo 271 HP 289 (e.g. solid lifters, cam etc)? Anyone have details on the
parts Ford used to build this one (heads, etc)? I assume this was the 260
used in the earliest Cobras, as I do not believe (could be wrong) that Ford
offered such an engine in any of the cars it produced with 260's.
