I had the same dilemma i.e. how to get the trunk springs off without losing
any teeth or damaging the paint. A local Tiger friend suggested this and it
worked very well with minimal effort, tools or materials.
Open the trunk lid. Wrap a rag around the pivot point in the hinge. Secure the
arms with hose clamps so the lid stays up. Get a 6' length of say 5/16" rope.
Tie that to the rear hook on the spring. Turn yourself around and put the rope
over your shoulder. Apply steady pressure (it doesn't require that much) until
the hook comes away from its anchor and then gradually relax the tension.
