I had thought that the primary advantage of aluminum head was the
resistance to detonation. My understanding was that this was primarily
do to the quicker and more even cooling of aluminum vs cast Iron. I had
thought that cast iron would develop "hot spots" when used in high
compression applications and these would cause pre-ignition.
Not sure if I am correct on that or not.
