thanks ron, stephen and AAAGLASSS@aol, great responses. i couldnt get that
silly little adjusted to turn no matter how much PB Blaster and vise grips i
used...but the trusty hammer knocks to the drum worked like magic!!

Peter

1st refer to the rear brake diagram in the Shop Manual.
http://www.tigersunited.com/resources/wsm/wsmk9.asp

Turn the adjuster out all the way to allow the shoes to pull in away from
the drum.

See if brake drum will come off.

Lightly tap on the hand brake lever at the brake cylinder; the whole brake
cylinder should move a little.
You might also want to open the bleeder screw briefly at the same time to
let the cylinder collapse some. Have a paper towel handy or catch can for
the fluid that comes out, then tighten the bleeder.

See if brake drum will come off.

Hit the brake drum with a hammer if needed to get the brake shoes to move in
and release the drum.

Pull drum off

If the drum is still frozen; try turning the axle back and forward to try
and break it loose.

If the car is drivable; put the tire on and move the whole car back and
forward to break it loose or push it back and forward.

Remove all brake parts, pay close attention to the parts holding the brake
cylinder and the way they are assembled.

Clean all parts and back plate, renew any worn parts.

Assemble brakes and check for smooth function; lube where needed.

Good luck

Ron Fraser
