Hey Jim -

An oil pressure swtich is not enough protection in a crash, but much better
then nothing at all, I think most all EFI cars on the road now a days' have
some sort of crash sensor that cuts pumps, etc. If you look at some of the EFI
and other Hiperf electric fuel pumps they can empty a swimming pool in short
order (kidding of course) but they pump a huge amount of fuel in sort order.
The inertia switch is a good thing as you don't have to get oil pressure
cranking for the pressure switch to kick in, and is yet another good
anti-theft, just kick it and it will pop ;-)

Hi Bob

I rigged up a fuel pump shutoff on my 914V8 project many years ago. It was
done using a 'Hobbs' pressure switch 't'eed into the external oil pump on
the Buick V8 . I had a 3 position switch under the dash with the center
position 'off' ( for anti-theft ) and one side 'hot' through the Hobbs .the
other side of the switch was bypassing the Hobbs in case the fuel bowls
happened to be empty so you could run the pump direct at startup and switch
it to the other side as soon as the car started. I think the switch closed
at about 10 psi., was 1/8" pipe thread and had 2 terminals.

We are 'blessed?' with mechanical oil pressure gauges on the Tiger so I
would think it wouldn't be that difficult to 't' in the switch... maybe even
under the dash.

Hey...another thought.. you could move the panel light wire over to the
headlight switch and plug in another 3 position toggle in it's place and
wire it up...! 'stealth' anti-theft AND accident or rollover protection...
cool ! ;)

Who has added an inertia switch to their pump wiring to automatically shut
off the fuel pump in the event of an accident? What switch did you use? How
big is it? I think I recall someone saying they had used one from a Ford
pickup... ? Tips, tricks, advice or installation instruction? Wiring
schematic?

TIA
