As someone previously mentioned, diesels are anything but dead outside the
States.
The correct figure for diesel sales in the UK and Europe is a little over 40
percent for new car sales, and diesels currently come in everything from MINI,
Focus, Golf, and Opel Astra's to Jaguar, BMW 3 and 5 series, Mercedes C, E,
and S class and even Chrysler 300's sold overseas. The redesigned London Cabs
that have been in service the past five years are powered by a Ford four
cylinder
diesel.
Starting this coming Summer, Volkwagen will begin offering a 50-state diesel
in the Jetta, and they are only the first to begin bringing back passenger cars
to the States with diesel power.
Honda is about two years away from offering a diesel in its Accord for U.S.
buyers.
