It would seem that it might have been the best to hotrod a vehicle years ago
with a 283 because of the availability of parts but now it seems a Ford
engine would be the choice especially considering the Ford is over square
and the Chevy 283 isn't. Also the go fast goodies are definitely more
prevalent for the smallblock Ford now and it would seem that it should be
able to make more power especially at high RPM. The 283 is a 1950's design.

I have seen an Alpine from Colorado with a 283
