Hello,
First, thanks to so many generous and helpful people regarding my quest to
get my clutch sorted out for Tod Brown's Sunbeam meet this weekend.
Clutch is in and car works great.
Sequence of events
1) finding a clutch. Went to Rick at SS. McLeod branded clutch was in
disfavor and not available. Tried local sources: a clutch for WHAT? I tried
telling
them what Rick told me: a 64 Falcon Sprint. No dice. Centerforce: a clutch
for WHAT? Back to Rick. He sourced a stock clutch and had it dispatched.
2) went though all Listed data and Tony the Tiger's advice: go down not up.
Highlited the salient bits Organized shop manual and printed sections of
Lister's letters. Had Pictures and complete instructions to go low.
3) and you know what? He did it with only removing the Transmission, bell
housing etc. Flywheel needed resurfacing: No surprise. The garage complained
that everything was coated with oil, 41 years worth of drips.
But the mechanic mentioned all bolts came out easy because of this.
Transmission had sections of blue paint. Want to spruce that back up .Anybody
know a
matching modern color?
In conclusion, I had planned to restore the engine compartment when the
clutch went. But in the rush to get all done before the Down East Get-together,
that didn't happen. The best laid plans.........
Thanks everyone,
Jim Armstrong
