Everybody in Maine pumps their own gas, even folks with lots of money. A
couple of years ago, one of our famous summer residents, an extremely
well-known artist who is getting on in years, pulled into the local general
store/gas station near his house. His grand-daughter got out to pump the
gas into his SUV. At some point, he decided that his grand-daughter was
done and absent-mindedly put the truck in gear and drove off. Off course
he yanked the hose off the pump and caused a rather large spill, just
across the road from the St. George estuary. Fortunately, there was no
fire and they stopped the flow pretty quickly, but the FD had to come and
clean up. Another argument for having someone pump the gas for you.
