There's nothing quite like the Tiger when you combine all the key
characteristics, especially at it's weight, low-rpm horsepower (torque)
and relative (inflation adjusted) as-new price point, but a turbo
Miata, like the recent Mazdaspeed Miata would come match or beat a
stock Tiger on most counts except for the grunt right off the line,
including 0-60.

If you get hung up trying to compare with the performance of a modified
Tiger, a good aftermarket Miata turbo kit can very easily and reliably
put down ~220+hp at the rear wheels, and I've seen >400 at the high end
of the spectrum. A supercharged version doesn't have quite the high end
potential, but gets a lot closer to the off the line kick of a Tiger.

In terms of out of pocket dollars today, you can find nice solid Miatas
and apply the aftermarket turbo and performance stuff for >$10k total,
whereas a $10k Tiger is a wreck. Last note: I have no reservations
tracking my Miata right up to 10/10ths (it's easily replaced), whereas
I would immediately be worrying about the implications of an accident
if I pushed the Tiger much beyond 8/10ths.

If you have to keep the V8, the new Vette is the only thing that's
close, but it clearly runs circles even around most modified Tigers.
It's the hands down high performance sportscar value of today.
