My Tiger, which was originally sold in upstate New York, then moved to Massachusetts where I found it in 1977, had undercoating, much of which is still in place. Along with plugging drain holes, the old style undercoatings were rigid enough to conceal rust. It would look just fine on the outside, meanwhile the panel behind it was rusting away.
