I don't drive the Tiger for its great gas mileage but I just
accidentally did the ultimate gas mileage test, and the results aren't
pretty. Filled up with 12.6 gallons (U.S.) of gas, I completely ran out
of fuel at 155 miles for an average of 12.3 miles per gallon.
The engine dyno'd at 250 HP a year or so ago, and I have a .73 5th gear
so rpms are around 2300 at 75 MPH, the usual freeway speed here in
southern Arizona. I installed a rebuilt vacuum advance distributor a
couple of months ago, replacing my old Ford dual point. I converted both
distributors to a Pertronix set up so the only real difference should be
the vacuum advance, which I thought should help with the mileage a bit.
I did clean my K&N air cleaner tonight, and it was filthy, so we'll see
if that helps with mileage with my next tank of gas.
Any other ideas on what else to look for?
