If you mean the lower sash channel they come right off if you know what you
are doing and have the right tools. We use a tool made from a brick splitting
chisel with the sharp end ground flat. Put glass on a carpet on a table place
chisel on edge of sash at almost flat angle hit with hammer. 40 year old
sash channels are usually rusty and should be cleaned and painted before
reinstalling. And while you are in the door, take the regulator out lube all
pivot
points, pack the counter balance spring with white grease like a bearing.
Better to release it and do this but be careful its under tension and should be
removed with reg in full up pos. Put it in a vise and unload with channel lock
pliers. Also the most important part of lubing the regulator is in the
housing that holds the shaft that the crank turns. Inside this is a clutch
spring
that holds the reg in position it needs to be lubed to work properly. Put reg
on trash can, with shaft pointed down and fill up housing until lube runs out
shaft. We lube with motorcycle chain lube for this and pivot points. On some
regs this won't work because the parts are so crudded up the lube won't floe
into the right places. If this happens you need to remove the housing and
shaft to clean up things & relube as this is the only way to fix it. BUT
ALWAYS
REMOVE THE COUNTER BALANCE SPRING FIRST. Also mark it so you can put it back
in the right place. You want it to push the window up not down. HTH
