I never had good results with lead additive, it only seemed to foul
the spark plugs yearly so I stopped using any.
I don't believe valve recession is a big problem with a stock Tiger. I
believe the problem occurs mostly with constant high RPM in the 6000 range.
There is no way to tell if your engine had this done unless the previous
owners had knowledge of hardened valves being installed.

Quick question - did Tiger engines ever need to be converted/modified at all
to run reliably on unleaded fuel?

I thought I heard that the heads or valves needed to be hardened or
something like that to run the less-lubricating unleaded gas.

How can I tell if my newly purchased Tigers have had this done, if it is
necessary? Or should I just always add lead additive to be safe?

Thanks,
Peter
