I do believe the Alpine (negative ground) and the Tiger tachs are the
same except for the face. There was an old CAT tech tip that
suggested using the Alpine tach and changing the 4 cyl to 8 cyl
using model airplane decals. Then you simply adjusted the
rheostat to make it read right.
This is not the LAT tach. The option brochure shows a LAT tach that
appears to be a MGB tach complete with the ignition jewels in the
lower part of the face. My LAT tach face matches that down to the
little serial numbers on the bottom. Then the stage 1 kit shows what appears
to be a vintage SUN tach. The LIT tachs were SUN.
John Clegg, ex Rootes engineer, told stories about when the Tiger was
being developed by Rootes that they engineers would take the
prototypes home over the weekend and return them on Monday with
notes like 'Engine misses, runs rough, etc'. They finally had to tell
everyone to stop shifting the Tiger at 6000 rpm like the Alpine.
