Rob,

You have had some pretty good advice from a lot of Tiger folk on your
water pump query. Non, however, discussed the major reason you should
NOT use a Mk I, 1A 260 pump on a 289 block.

It won't fit!

The 289 water pump, unlike the 260, has a closed back sealing off the
impeller. The timing chain cover housing, different on the Mk I's,
formed it's own back.

I agree that the Edelbrock is a superb pump, as it should be at it's
price. It is also available in a polished state for nearly twice the
amount. Take care you get the one meant for the 289 HiPo, and measure
the pulley front hub face to pump housing face (set-back) and diameter
in accordance with the Workshop Manual, in your desk, or on the
TigersUnited.com web site (the fan hub diameter is also important, and
was 1" when originally delivered:

There is a reported alternate set-back view reported from TE/AE Tech
Notes. I'd measure my ORIGINAL Tiger version. !!! Please note the hub
is reversed from the normal Ford fashion, putting the 1" rear diameter,
usually at the back of the mounting face, in the front. This is to
allow the pulley to be set back further, clear the radiator, and match
the rest of the fan belt plane. Check your fan belt. I am told the
new segmented style lasts longer. The Ford part number for the
original belts can be found on the TigersUnited Parts Manual for the
'260' Tiger.

Rootes text, and incorrect Ford pictures, can also be found in the
Workshop Manual reference, but do note the lack of a backing plate on
the '260' style pump.

Good Luck,

Steve
