This little piece appeared in the Hemmings e-magazine. Thought we should
think about our friend from Nevada and his attempt at the worlds fastest
Tiger. My
prayers go out to him as well as a prayer that he accomplish his goal.

Former ECTA president dies in Bonneville accident

John Beckett, 58, was killed at Bonneville Sunday when his race car rolled at
over 200 mph.
One of the men responsible for bringing land speed racing to the East Coast
died Sunday while racing at Bonneville.
John Beckett, 58, of Laurinburg, North Carolina, rolled his C/GCC Crosley at
a speed of more than 200 mph at the five-mile mark of the seven-mile course
Sunday afternoon, Aug.14, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
Roy Creel, chairman of the Bonneville Nationals, Inc., told the Tribune that
paramedics found Beckett strapped inside the mostly intact Crosley. According
to the Southern California Timing Associationbs website, Beckett died
shortly
after the paramedics reached him.
Beckett, who had spent more than 20 years racing, had served as the East
Coast Timing Associationbs president and joined the prestigious 200-mph
club-b
which requires a record run at more than 200 mphb-in 1992.
The day before, Beckett had run as fast as 227.593 mph, and long course
results show that he had reached 223 mph shortly before the crash.
Participants
described the course as bumpy and slick Saturday and Sunday, with a handful of
spins taking place, but no other reported injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Racing will continue
as scheduled. For a tribute to Beckett go to the ECTAbs web site at:
