My Tiger 1A has the bell cap intact. Without it, it seems the dipstick would go into the tube further, giving an incorrect reading. The cap is held onto the stick by a small staked area on the edges of the stick, above the bell cover. I suppose the slot in the bell cover could vibrate, and in 40 years or so could elongate enough to come off and/or get lost. My car is 000490, and has 40,000 miles on it. - - - - Bud W |
