According to Bob Mannels Small Block V8 book the casting number for
that thermostat housing is C8OE-8592-B.
He also explains that full size Fords without A/C did not use the vacuum
control valve; some housings are machined with a plug inserted, some have
the boss without any machining.
The Tiger thermostat housing part number is C3OZ-8594-B. I would
therefore expect the 68 part number to be something like this C8xx-8594-x
but that needs to be verified. Also the thermostat housing on my 1988 5.0L
is similar to the 68 part with a boss on top that might support machining.
You would need to inspect the inside of a 5.0 housing to determine if it can
be machined for a temp sender.

Subject: Temperature Sender Installation
Hello All:
A couple of members responded to my note about a method of mounting the
temperature sender in cars using a 4-bbl carb and manifold so I did a
little further research/memory refreshment. According to a note in the 4th
Ed. of CAT's Shop Notes, "Late model 289's and 302's (i.e. mid 70's) have a
smog temperature sender for vacuum retard/advance in the thermostat
outlet..." I had installed this type of thermostat housing on my Tiger
years ago and was able to find an adapter that allowed me to install the
stock temp sender in the housing. Works fine, FWIW. I recollect that I
bought the thermostat housing at a parts store. They may still be
available. I can provide a pic of my setup if anyone is interested. Tod
