Hi Steve,
Sulfur dissolves in gasoline to some extent, and it will get burned to
sulfur dioxide and trioxide if it gets into the combustion chambers, and
then form sulfurous and sulfuric acid with the water vapor in the exhaust.
The fact that these are highly corrosive are probably secondary issues
compared to what it's going to do to the catalytic converter. Pump gas is
allowed to contain up to 0.03 percent (30 parts per million by mass) of
sulfur, but it sounds like you've got a lot more than that... I'd pull the
tank and clean it all out.
