Ron, the water jacket boss location on the side of the block is often
recommended by aftermarket knock sensor folks. See this installation note
from Holley,

http://www.holley.com/TechDocs/Instructions/Holley/Sheets/534-136.pdf

My vendor also recommended this location as a good possibility.

I am not familiar with the engine set up you have or having a knock
sensor on the engine. My impression of knock sensors is that they need to
be installed directly to the block to receive the correct signal and produce
the proper feedback signal. I would think that a knock sensor mounted to a
water jacket port would receive a poor signal due to the water jacket and
give poor to terrible feedback signal.

As for sealing the threads; I would use some Permatex form a gasket
non hardening sealer at the water jacket port.
