carry ALL the original Rootes colors, including the exact #86 Rootes
Sunbeam Tiger/Alpine green paint in buckets, as well as spray cans.
Of course it is the original enamel, and you may want a more modern
paint. At least you can get an
inexpensive spray can and let the paint supplier spray a test panel,
scan it, and come back with the closest match
in his new formulation coatings. Then they can make a small test batch
and spray half a panel with the original, covering the other half, then
do the formulated sample next to it. You can then tell if it is close
enough for your taste.
That is how I did it, and it works fine. This is a PAINT supply store
that sells to the public, but mostly body shops, like PPG, Ditzler,
Nobel, etc. You do NOT have to have the body shop do it. They usually
only deal in one brand, as the supply of colors and bases and mixing
equipment is quite extensive, and partially funded by the paint company.
If you don't like their result (distributor or body shop), you can
always go to another. The body shops usually charge for this service.
The paint dealer did not, and sold the paint directly to the painter, so
he got his cut too, and was not unhappy.
