For those of you who have seen the pictures of the part we are trying to 
identify how about giving your guess now.  I hope that I haven't mislead you 
into 
thinking that I actually knew the part's purpose.  I've had my ideas all along 
and was just curious if someone could come up with something different.

Theo has come up with the same conclusion for use that I have.
