Hi Frank,
The schematic (at least this reproduction) 
http://www.tigersunited.com/resources/wsm/tt-images/MKIBIGwiring.jpg
shows a connecting brown wire that runs from the starter solenoid to the 
Batt terminal at the regulator. The optional ammeter connects in here 
(and only in here - if you connect it otherwise you will not get the 
right operation of the ammeter).
