Bob,
Where you been? seems like every muscle car magazine and the Speed Chanel
(just the other day as a matter of fact) jam the 1964 GTO down our throats
as the first muscle car. I wasn't alive in 1963 so I can only go by what the
oldtimers say..

How about a 62 Dodge Dart with the 413 Max Wedge? or how about my dad's old
"she's real fine" 1961 Impala SS..."four speed, dual quad, posi-traction
409"? Some "expert" use that car as the beginning of the era.

Maybe it was the advertising/marketing that defines the era...early 60s I
thought was more the What Wins On Sunday, Sells On Monday...and the late 60s
was more the Pop Culture (pyschodelic) style that makes me think of muscle
cars.

Or twisting the dial further on the way back machine...what year did Chevy
have the "1 horse per cubic inch" motor, was that 57? Or how about the 55
Chrsyler 300...300 for 300hp. When will it end? or should I say begin?

All I can do is scratch my head...and say I dunno.

Paul
