That's true with any list. But the publishers, car companies, car clubs and
show promoters have set the traits and it is generally recognized that the true
muscle car started with the GTO and ended with the 1973 production year.
Some consider the Max Wedge Cars as the first muscle cars but these were not
generally available to the person off the street. The most compelling argument
is a power to weight ratio combined with the other criteria that the public
generally accepts.
