Erm, well, I wouldn't call it technical expertise, but:
I moved my rack back approximately 5" from the stock position. (It's
now right under the harmonic balancer). It has about 1/4" clearance from
the front of the pan, so the Spridget rack arms are more or less
'horizontal' in plan view, rather than 'trailing', like the stock Tiger
setup.
The rack sits down lower than stock, so the Spridget rack arms slope
upwards to meet the MGB steering arms. I made a set of spacers at the
end of the steering arms to flatten the angle of the rack arms in order
to try to avoid bump steer.
I'd written an article and was planning to illustrate it with some
photos, but, while the article (short version) is ready, I haven't got
round to fiddling with pictures yet. Haven't got hardly any road time
since the installation: I fried the wiring harness last September, the
IRS needed some attention in late December and when I got that resolved,
the engine cra**ed out in April so it's only been on the road for about
2 weeks earlier this year. Makes it hard to evaluate the changes and
whether they work, but Smitty said "it handles like an Alpine" and I
think that was intended as a compliment.
Steve L, if you'll tell me the best way to send you the article, perhaps
it could be posted on the T.U. website? And when I get time I could add
some photos.
Best Regards
David Sosna
