Ron, Your proposed scenario is persuasive and may be correct. However, two different people Norm talked to told him the suffix was the engine build date. Also, Norm got microfiche of the Assembly Orders. The ones he printed in the article include the following note: "MARK WITH PAINT ENGINE SERIAL NO. ON L.H. SIDE OF CYL. BLOCK ASSY. /SERIAL NO. TO BE SAME AS ON ENGINE NAME PLATE-GR. H-32-3/." Your guess as to precisely what this means is a good as mine. Bob |
