Hi Steve,
At least the 1500 cc Japanese engine would have kept its oil inside. The
rigidity and metallurgical properties of the Japanese engine blocks of the
late 60's and early 70's (specifically the Nissan L series OHC and the
Toyota T series pushrod hemi) allowed them to be stressed way beyond their
as-delivered state, and if all you did was change the oil regularly on a
stock one, they'd easily last 150,000 miles. My 'been there, done that' is
180 flywheel horsepower from a naturally aspirated 1740 CC Toyota 2T-C, and
a friend managed well over 300 horsepower from the same basic setup using
turbocharging and intercooling. Both engines were roadraced for several
seasons without major overhauls. Any British iron pushed to the same
specific output (even the meager 1.7 hp/cu.in. that I managed to get) would
be little more than a handgrenade and it would cost you an arm and a leg to
keep it going.

Best regards,
Theo

Larry,

You know, from reading TBON, that Chrysler did try to get their V-8 under a
new model, which never saw any production. From Chrysler's ACTUAL history,
if they had kept Rootes alive, the Tiger would probably have a 1500 cc
Japanese engine. Only the name remains the same, everything else gets
worse.
