Jim, could be that the bulbs were just about to go, and did. I would
test the bulb socket with a volt ohm meter to see what your are getting
at the socket. Probably less than 12 v. Also check the ground, a wire
to the rubber bumper at the front of the hood. If less than 12 v
cleaning this up will help the ground.
The best way is to just put a relay into the circuit and get the full
voltage, and make a real ground for the headlights.
