Just some background on the question of pushrod length; Ford increased the
302 and 351 valve stem length 0.18" in '69 to provide more room for the rail
rockers and also increased the pushrods by 0.1" (6.9" v. 6.8"). There was no
change in this regard in the heads per se, so the use of longer push rods is
not really related to 351 vs. earlier 260/289/302 heads, but is simply a
question of the particular valves used. Ideally, one should undertake the
procedure discussed previously on the List for determining the optimum
pushrod length for maximum valve opening.
