Actually, while hydraulics may seem soft (and I'm not really certain of
this), just to be clear, solid lifters will not feel solid, but loose when
the valve is closed. All solid lifter cams are designed for a certain amount
of clearance, which may be about 0.025", which is quite a bit. In order to
properly set the clearance, you need to know what the cam spec is. I guess
you could take a stab based on what they seem to be set at now and see how
they sound, but this seems a little risky.
