Two data points: 175/80-13 Dunlops on stock rims just touch the front valence when reversing at sharp turning angles. 195/70-13 Contis on 5.5X13 rims (4 1/4 inch backspace) would be destroyed by the front valence (or visa versa) unless you trim it. I have had no fender lip problems front or rear (no rear spacers), but the previous owner did rust repairs in both areas. The Contis (on the same wheels) were on another Tiger without problems. too.
