Hello Listers,
For those of you who have been having some clutch disengagement problems
after replacing your three finger long throw clutch with a diaphragm setup,
there is a very simple fix (assuming you already have the bellhousing out of
the car).
You will need to change the fork fulcrum point. The fulcrum upon which the
fork is affixed by a clip will need to be shimmed or replaced with a taller
aluminum block, thus moving the fulcrum point closer to the clutch hence
disengaging the clutch fully.
Please note that McCleod does make a Tiger specific diaphragm clutch
requiring no changes to your fulcrum point. I believe any other diaphragm
clutch designed for the early Ford applications (e.g., Mustang) will require
the fulcrum modification.
There is a kit available from Mustangs Plus (they have a web site) which
consists of a nicely machined aluminum block and fasteners which is used when
swapping the T5 trans/bellhousing but keeping the stock Z bar setup in the
early Mustangs.
Good Luck!
Respectfully submitted,
Henry Vicioso
