I don't dispute your conclusions and a broken fulcrum pin can really ruin
your day. However, the earlier Alpines used solid bushings, which were in
effect simply a coarse screw. Along those same lines the failure limit for
aircraft aluminum is zero. That is, aluminum will always fail eventually, no
matter how small the stress. It's just that "eventually" is long enough to
be economically viable - that is unless you are flying Aloha Airlines where
they take off and land 20 times a day. ;-)
