Check your fuel filter. If you have small black flakes
in it, the you are a victim of modern gas breaking down
the fuel tanks lining. The only cure is to remove the
tanks and refurbish them. This issue has been
covered by others on the list. The stock pump
works great and has no problem keeping up with
my Holley 600 cfm.

I just changed the tanks and fuel pump on Ken Bishop's
MK II on Friday. His symptoms were: (1) Engine starts and
then dies (2) NO gas in the carb fuel bowl (3) NO sound
from the fuel pump. (4) Beating on the pump caused
it to restart and fill the carb (5) Car runs until the pump
them quits again (6) Removed the fuel filter and found it
filled with black flakes thought to be left over diesel fuel
from his fill up at St Louis (Don't ask!!) (7) Called Doug
Jennings who had a set of reburished tanks on the shelf.
He sent the new tanks and a new fuel pump. He said
odds were greater than 90% the fuel pump was bad too.
(8) replaced tanks. Same problem. Car starts then dies.
No fuel pump noise. (9) Replaced Fuel pump. (10)
Eureka. Car starts. Pump clicks and good flow to the
carb. Fuel filter is clear.

Moral to this story. If you see any sort of black flakes
in your fuel lines, start looking for tanks and a pump.
Doug said he has replaced over 50 sets of tank
recently. This may be about the time limit for all
of us using unleaded fuel.
