Tigers, Stig, and Tim,
Regardless of the varying opinions as to what the British might mean
about the notation the the motor mounts should be, there was quite a
discussion over the meaning of the Rootes Parts List notations on Tiger
motor mounts:
Mountings as:
C3AZ-6038-G, Support rubber, O/S (R.H.) and
C3AZ-6038-H, Support rubber, N/S (L.H.)
Where some question was raised about the British meaning "Off Side being
that opposite the driver, or the Left side of the car.
Well, to settle the matter, in my own mind, I dug out my Jaguar XK 120M
knock-off to see what it said.
Clearly stamped deeply into the lustrous 2 eared chrome beauty was "UNDO
-->" pointing clockwise and "RIGHT (OFF) SIDE" It clearly goes on the
right hand side of the car - "right" meaning right when you are sitting
in the car on the left side. These cannot be reversed for export, as the
threads are not the same on both sides, one being reverse twisted.
Now, that may, or may not, convince the rest of you. But back in 1954,
when that car was bought new, and everything was Whitworth, and all was
right with the world - that was the way it was. (8-)
