Steve, had a similar problem with a TR-4. Found that the rim was out of
round. This can be easily check by the tire shop. All they have to do is use
a dial caliber while rotating the rim on a balancing machine. Snap-On made a
hand powered balancing machine in the early eighties that was picked up by
many of the Indy car teams to balance units that reached 200 mph + speeds.
One of those machines if they could be found would work great. Your story on
the Nazi Road Oilers out of round tires points to a similar problem.
The answer that is suggested is to start with the tires, then the rims and so
forth, parsimony being the key here.
