Tom Halls reply to Stew's concerns, below, is exactly right.
" If you consider the loads in vector format, any form of locational "fixing"
or attachment at the extreme ends which reduces the cantilever effect will
tend to substantially reduce the stress at the typical point of crack
propagation."
To add to this, the vector improves somewhat when the wheel is loaded as in a
high "G" turn because the forces from the suspension arm more closly line up
with the link.
Also, the friction due to the bolt torque is enough to eliminate rotation of
the link about the pin. The nuts and bolts on the link as well as the eight
bolts holding the fulcrum pin have lost zero torque on my car in 35,000
miles.
