A colleague of mine purchased a 2000 Morgan +8 last year and I've had the
opportunity to drive it on several occasions. I haven't read the referenced
article but my main impression of the car is that it's a bunch of new(er)
technology wrapped around a very old design. First of all the car is
beautiful in BRG and Tan Conoloy leather. The 4 litre Rover is a great
engine with a plenty of torque. The shifter is balky and the suspension is
buckboard stiff. The quote from Peter Morgan that I keep hearing from the
car's owner is "Suspension is for wimps!". I'd believe it after driving
this car. Cowl shake is horrendous. The steering is very heaving and
requires a lot of attention to keep the car pointed in the right direction
during spirited driving. The ergonomics in the car are horrible. The
controls and switches are all on the wrong places and the rear view mirror
is directly in my line of sight if I'm looking about 30 degrees to the
right. Taller people have less of a problem. A stereo is fitted so far up
under the center console that it requires a remote to operate. Having said
all that, the car is still a blast to drive and get's a lot of attention
wherever you take it.

For those interested - and who can obtain a copy - there is a
comparative article in the October issue (No 158) of the French
magazine, Retroviseur, of my Tiger and a local Morgan +8. Just don't
ask me to translate it into English.
