Steve,
Having been through this very thing, I recommend that you not only get
both springs installed, but that they be selected to give you the
desired advance of "full advance" by 2700 rpm. You are a bit
handicapped by having what used to be a dual point distributor, with no
vacuum advance under light load, but the same criteria apply.
It will take a race tuner, or distributor shop, with appropriate
distributor machine (not built for 20 years) to do the job. There is one
in Thousand Oaks.
Running with half a spring set is not the best solution.
They never had to put it on a dyno, as they know the correct curve for a
Ford, and all they need is the distributor machine with the adapter for
electronic points.
