Larry,

As a matter of fact, they did. My '54 Jaguar XK-120M had a pop off door
under the carpet and ahead of the seat, on the right hand (English
Driver's) side. You could quickly pop this off and there was the SU,
easy to reach, even in the rain.  That's where the jacking receptacle
was, as well. You could jack the car up while sitting in it in the rain.
Unfortunately, you had to get out to change the tire.
