I used this cast iron bellhousing (casting #C5TA-6394-A) on my Tiger and
had the same problem. There is a bigger diameter flywheel that goes with
this bellhousing. The original Tiger flywheel is about 13 1/4" in
diameter and the flywheel you need is around 14" diameter. This larger
flywheel was used on certain Ford trucks and vans. I got mine at an auto
wrecking yard and they didn't mark it as to what exactly it came off of,
only marked it as "Big Ford Flywheel." Sorry I don't have the casting or
part number for this flywheel. A sharp Ford parts department man may
know what flywheel this is or be able to look it up for you.
You may be able to use one of the "High Torque/High Performance"
starters that are available for small block Fords as they may have an
adaptable nose housing for various applications. Call one of the
suppliers listed in "Hot Rod" type magazines and explain your
application and see if they can help. I did my swap in 1980 and these
High Torque starters were not available.
Also your right exhaust pipe may need to be re-bent or flattened some to
clear the starter as the starter sits farther out because of the larger
cast iron bellhousing.
Hope this helps, Gary Franchi

I have placed the iron C5TA6394A bellhousing (for added safety) in my Tiger
and found that my stock starter will not engage the 157 tooth flywheel. Can
this be easily fixed with a different starter (I heard somewhere that a
specific Ford truck started will work...need part #) or do I have to use a
164 tooth flywheel or go back to the aluminum housing?
