I attended the British Car Festival in Bowie, Maryland a week or so back
which was very nice. There were probably 300 cars in attendance situated
around a small lake. Sunbeam was well represented with 6 or 7 Tigers and 4
Alpines in what I think was the best spot on the lake. A frequent
contributor to the list, Larry Paulick, took home 1st place in class for
his newly finished Mark I Tiger. There were many comments from folks who
thought Larry's car was one of the best in the entire show. Way to go
Larry! Several parts vendors were present and a large contingent of cars
for sale rounded out a nice show. I'd highly recommend it for anyone within
comfortable driving distance of Washington DC.
My car arrives home from the painter next weekend. The work done so far
includes:
Delivering the body shell, doors, trunk, etc. to Charlie Baker's shop in
Hyattsville, Md.
Removing the front and rear suspension to work on at home while Charlie
does the bodywork and paint.
Disassembly of the front suspension.
Powder coating of all pieces. (I used the Eastwood HotCoat system for
everything but the crossmember).
Reassembly of the front suspension with all new bearings, bushings, ball
joints, seals, springs, shocks, etc.
Bodywork on the shell included stripping of all paint on the car.
Minor bodywork ( the car is rust-free)
Alignment of the doors, hood, trunk, headlight buckets, etc.
5 coats of BRG with 3 coats of clear.
Wet sanding and polishing.
One of these days I'll put together a site which shows the progress of the
restoration. It's either spend time on that or the car and the car usually
wins.
Cheers,
Joe Parlanti
