Greg,

How did you set-up and adjust your hot-air choke?
How did you connect the PCV to the Carb base for manifold vacuum?

The real Holley 465 CFM (even one sold new as late as last year) for the
LAT kit did not have a PCV inlet vacuum tube, nor is there room under
the hood to add even a specially thin plate under the carb. Needed
creative solution.

The real 465 Holley came stock with hot air choke, not electric.

The vacuum booster fits to the side manifold vacuum port, and not a good
idea to "T" it to a small PCV hose.

Don't know what kind of fuel pump you are running, but have you gone
through the Haynes or Holley carb book and checked how to adjust your
float levels? Are these old carbs that could be bad, cracked bodies,
plugged orifices? The original design did not have a power valve
back-fire protection device, but they can be added. Otherwise you might
blow the power valve with a back-fire.

Flooring the gas pedal is not the normal way to start the engine, when
correctly set up. Mine always starts up instantly, hot or cold, with
foot off the pedal. I only turn the start key when the SU fuel pump
stops clicking.

I have the same set-up, and a few mods for PCV and primary main jets.
Runs very smooth at all temperatures, and the measured mixture ratio is
correct at any throttle position or load. Smooth idle, no sog or bog on
acceleration, no flat spots. That's what CAN be done with it.

Hope this gives you some clues on where to look. Those symptoms could be
many things.

Steve
